The monsters in our heads

I've been stuck in a rut lately (or a little longer). I considered not writing today because I didn't have anything exciting to share, as happens frequently. However, a comics enthusiast recommended a graphic novel by Alfonso Casas on Twitter, Monstermind: Dealing with Anxiety & Self-doubt, which I decided to read. It turned out that it was another lucky synchronicity.

The main character's life is ruled by a plethora of monsters living only in his head. He once dreams of them holding a trial against him, accusing of not being able to live a normal and productive life. His imaginary fears and doubts decide so. You get the irony. And the pandemic only made things worse, as for most of us.

The thing is, we all have those monsters of doubts, feeling like an imposter, social axiety, sadness, and it's perfectly normal. We must learn to leave with them because they never go away. And the graphic novel is a much-needed reminder of that. Go read it. It also provides some additional resources and ideas to make you more grounded, such as journaling or naming and drawing your own fears. Here are some of mine:
