Dealing with creative self-doubt: “It has already been done”

As I’m reading Amber Rae’s The Answers are Within You: 108 Keys to Unlock Your Mind, Body & Soul, I felt compelled to share a passage that speaks of the doubts I frequently experience, namely the fear that most of the creative things I aspire to do have already been done.

Such thoughts frequently arise when I consider a book, drawing, or blog post idea. In a similar vein, I regularly wonder if running this blog makes sense. After all, who am I to think I have much to contribute. However, Amber writes:

“When you translate your life experiences, worldviews, and emotions into creating something - something that reflects your curiosities and life story - that’s what makes your work authentic, original, and unique.”

Framed in this way, our creative ideas are unique, innovative, and worth pursuing because only we can bring certain perspectives and feelings to the table. Remembering Maria Forleo's encouragement has also been beneficial for me in times of doubt:

“Stay on your game and keep going for your dreams. The world needs that special gift that only you have."

Now that I've written it down, I'll strive to remember this reassurance, and I hope you'll find these words of comfort when you need them most. Better yet, take it as an invitation to take one small step toward what you're drawn to and what you've long wanted to do but were afraid your voice wouldn't matter. It matters.
