Artist shoutout: Kayte Young

I have the pleasure of getting to know Kayte Young through the Sequential Artists Workshop's Graphic Memoir and Medicine Working Group. Today her powerful comic strip, What Does it Mean To Be “Groomed”?, was posted on the Nib. Kayte, who was sexually abused as a child, shares her story in response to the recent political debate on grooming.

I don't read many comics based on political issues and rooted in journalism, but I will surely remember this one as an example of how to communicate ideas effectively while incorporating your own story to make them even more powerful. This is something I'd like to learn more about and improve at. I encourage you to read the full strip.

And if you would like to get to know Kayte's story better, you can order her graphic triptych, eleven, as I just did.
