The graphic is the medicine

People in the graphic medicine movement frequently say that the graphic is the medicine, illustrating the healing power of telling your story in a visual format. I recently had the opportunity to discover it for myself.

When my relative called me from an emergency room with a medical condition, I was unable to concentrate on anything long after that. It was only by drawing that situation to explain the emotions I was experiencing that I was able to calm down and process.

At the time, those few sketches seemed to be the only thing I could do, and I’m glad I had art as a refuge. The graphic truly is the medicine.
