For creatives, yellow is the new black

Yellow things always instinctively spoke to me. It’s something I believe I owe to my Mom. She was the one who dressed me in a lot of yellow since she loved that color. Or maybe she just liked me in it because then I truly resembled Maja the Bee? I'm not entirely sure.

Now I pay attention to yellow everywhere I go. I notice yellow buses and cars. I own quite a few yellow things. My bike is bright yellow. My keyboard case is yellow. Quechua's yellow backpack and a black Ikea bag with a yellow lining are my daily carry-ons of choice. I purchase yellow t-shirts like the one for the upcoming 2022 Graphic Medicine Conference. Yellow accents can be found on my website. I adore yellow book covers, and I've recently decided that the cover of my first non-fiction book will also be yellow. I got my beige Olivetti Lettera 35 with the intention to spray paint it yellow. The next jacket I will buy will be a yellow Patagonia jacket. My future Jeep Wrangler will be yellow. I love yellow tulips and a lawn covered in dandelions is one of the more nostalgic sights for me. “Yellow” is the title of one of my favorite Coldplay songs. Does that count?

I believe we all need more colors in our lives than the prevalent whites, beiges, and blacks. Maybe yellow is just a longing for the sun and warmth in my case. Is that all there is to it, though? A quick search on the psychology of colors showed that the color is frequently associated with happiness, optimism, creativity, and analytical thinking. That would explain a lot about my fascination.
