Shaun Levin’s Writing Maps for writing inspiration

In my attempt to write more, I got Shaun Levin’s Writing Maps. I ordered six and received one extra.

They are beautifully illustrated pocket books that, when fully unfolded, reveal writing prompts by Shaun and illustrations by various artists on both sides.

The authors define the Map’s purpose as follows:

“Writing maps are devised to inspire writers of all levels to create fiction and autobiography, short stories and novels.

Our writing prompts and story ideas are devised to help you transform people, places, objects and memories into stories, and make the craft of writing fun and relevant to your life.

We are inspiration in your pocket wherever you go.

No need for complicated how-to guides. These maps will get you writing right away. Guaranteed.”

Each map typically contains fourteen unique and creative writing prompts. Some even include reading lists!

For a long time, I've been fascinated by visual forms that combine text and illustrations in novel ways, and the Writing Maps are a great example of such art.

I'm really excited to see what stories emerge as a result of using the maps.
