Keeping a graphic memoir journal

If you've been following me for a while, you'll know that I love journaling and that it's the number one practice that keeps me grounded. So I was really excited when I recently read in Barbara Slate’s You Can Do a Graphic Novel that she recommends keeping a journal to document the process of creating comics. I thought it was a fantastic idea and immediately started one.

I've only been keeping track of my progress on the memoir for a few days. But, more importantly, it's a safe place for me to not only track my work progress, but also to deal with the emotions that come with a creative endeavor like making a graphic memoir, such as frustration with my limited drawing abilities or feelings of guilt when you do everything you can to avoid drawing. When the memoir is finished, it will be a valuable keepsake to look back on and reflect on the beginnings…
