2022 Graphic Medicine Conference - Day 2

The second day of the conference did not disappoint either. We had plenty of opportunities to hear from comic book authors and educators who use comics in their classrooms.

As part of the conference, I went to see a graphic medicine exhibition at the Ubiversity of Chicago's Joseph Regenstein Library, which documented how the field has evolved. It was also my first time seeing UChicago's beautiful medical campus.

I managed to grab three comic books to read after the conference: COVID Chronicles: A Comics Anthology, Life Support: An Invitation to Prayer, and Parenthesis. The latter was announced today as the winner of the Graphic Medicine International Collective's Graphic Medicine Award 2022 and I was eager to read it.

The day ended with a comics marketplace, where we had the chance to talk to some of the panelists and participants, and support their work.

Although the conference's ending was undoubtedly bittersweet, I will long remain inspired by the openness, creative spirit, and playfulness I witnessed during these two days. The good news is that the 2023 Graphic Medicine Conference will take place in Toronto next summer. I will most certainly be there.
